Advancing our understanding of ocean biogeochemistry, biology, and ecosystems relies on the ability to make observations both in the ocean and at the critical boundaries between the ocean and other earth systems at relevant spatial and temporal scales. After decades of advancement in ocean observing technologies, one of the key remaining challenges is how to cost-effectively make measurements at the increased resolution necessary for illuminating complex system processes and rapidly evolving changes. In recent years, biogeochemical in situ sensors have been emerging that are threefold or more lower in cost than established technologies; the cost reduction for many biological in situ sensors has also been significant, although the absolute costs are still... |

The use of capacitance sensors is one of the methods used to quantitatively measure soil water contents (theta, m³ m-3). Sensors provide readings at desired depths and time intervals. A capacitance probe (Diviner 2000) was calibrated for a Rhodic Paleudult from the Piaui State, Brazil. Six access tubes were installed in a 5 × 2 m grid arrangement. Three moisture levels (saturated, moist and dry) were used in two replications. Probe readings and soil samplings to determine theta were made at 0.1 m depth intervals down to a depth of 1.0 m. A power calibration equation was developed for each depth as well as for the entire soil profile (Root Mean Square Error = 0.014, R² = 0.93) for a theta range of 0.068 to 0.264 m³m-3. A separate calibration for each depth... |

The maintenance of body glucose in proper levels is of paramountimportance to the homeostasis control, offering a fundamentalenergetic substrate for the proper organic performance. For thepurposes of measuring body glucose levels, there are available portableand laboratory assessment techniques. Therefore, aiming at futureclinical trials on body glucose variation in dogs, it had the purpose ofobserving the feasibility of a continuous interstitial glucose monitoringsystem named CGMS® (Continuous Glucose Monitoring System,Guardian Real-Time System/Medtronic/U.S.A.). Eight clinically healthydogs composed the study group and all of them presented the highestinterstitial glucose values during the contention and obtaining processof venous blood samples for the... |

Parameters such as tolerance, scale and agility utilized in data sampling for using in Precision Agriculture required an expressive number of researches and development of techniques and instruments for automation. It is highlighted the employment of methodologies in remote sensing used in coupled to a Geographic Information System (GIS), adapted or developed for agricultural use. Aiming this, the application of Agricultural Mobile Robots is a strong tendency, mainly in the European Union, the USA and Japan. In Brazil, researches are necessary for the development of robotics platforms, serving as a basis for semi-autonomous and autonomous navigation systems. The aim of this work is to describe the project of an experimental platform for data acquisition in... |

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was evaluate the longitudinal distribution of maize seeds using a seeding line prototype, whit a microcontroller data acquisition system, at different speeds and types of horizontal feeder discs. Initially it was constructed a prototype simulator of seeding line, in the laboratory, and mounted two systems of microcontroller data acquisitions with infrared sensors for maize seeds counting. A test was conducted in a completely randomized design in split plots with factorial scheme of treatments 5 x 2 x 2, being the parcel two types of microcontroller data acquisition systems (infrared sensors in parallel and an diffuse infrared sensor), the factors were two feeder discs of maize seeds (inclined and normal) and five sowing... |

In this article, we propose a new strategy to build a sensor for easy handling and rapid analysis on-site. Our sensor is based on the combination of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). SERS provides a strong sensitivity for the detection of trace molecules while MIPs offer a highly selective and specific recognition platform. The research presented here focuses on the detection of the interaction between a robust ultra-thin layer of MIPs and of paracetamol, the targeted molecule. This drug is an environmental emerging pollutant, i.e., a molecule whose presence and significance have not yet been elucidated, which gives rise to health and environmental concerns. The results are a combined analysis of the SERS... |
